instructions

1. Click on "view larger map" on the main page to navigate to the URL of the "soundsplaces" googlemap.

2. Click on "save to my maps" to enable yourself to edit this map.

3. You will need to log into a google account to do this. They are free and easy to make/fake, ok?

4. Edit edit edit. Add places, try to include URLs or contact info in your map markers. This map is in "open collaboration" mode, so anyone can add to it or edit it. This also, naturally opens up the potential for vandalism. If you've done a bunch of editing, then download the KML file of the map by clicking on the "view in google earth" link, and then send it as an attachment to placessounds-at-gmail-dot-com. I'll keep an archive, so if things get weird, we can always revert to the most recent reliable date.

5. I've created a google group at groups.google.com/group/soundsplaces, so we can discuss this stuff, and also possibly use the file storage there to upload recent KML updates. I don't really know how to use google groups, so I'd be more than happy to hand over a shared moderatorship to someone competent. I dunno. I don't really want to spend a ton of time on this project, but I figure that the possibility is here to make this a pretty simple collaborative resource for people booking tours.

6. Be sensitive of house venues. If it's not very regularly a venue, maybe don't post it.. but if they already have a myspace account or some other web presence, i reckon it's alright.

7. cool thanks.
